Challenge
The Tourism Nova Scotia (TSN) website had originally been designed four years ago. It had been added to with a variety of microsites and there was a lot of duplicated content and confusing taxonomy. A number of tools such as search did not work and users found it difficult to find basic information. Because TNS is a government agency, we were told the site had to be built using Drupal.
Process
The Tribal team had conducted extensive research prior to the design phase, and we aware of the kind of information visitors to Nova Scotia were looking for. We realized there were two distinct use cases to design for. Firstly to seduce those who were deciding where to vacation and promote the best that Nova Scotia has to offer. The site also needs to act as a guide for those who had decided to visit and was either pre-planning or already on vacation. We divided the process into 14 weekly sprints, designing by component, which could quickly be built by front end developers and validated during weekly usability tests.
Outcome
I moved on from Tribal Agency soon after the site was launched and do not have access to website metrics, the online website design is however still unchanged 4 years later.
